Project Description

What is Bindii

------

Bindii
Bindii

------

Bindii is a fun and interactive mobile app that teaches kids about our native flora and fauna while they explore outside.

Kids can find, identify and collect native animal and plant characters using an augmented reality experience (think Pokemon Go). Kids will learn about the character, where they live and how to find them. When kids then find a real world equivalent of our characters and upload a photo, they will receive points and bonuses towards rewards in the app.

Fill up an interactive botanical zoo and watch it flourish.
Track progress against friends and compete for bounties on unique flora and fauna (including dangerous grasses and fruitflies)

We have a passion for the conservation and perpetuation of Australia’s wildlife. We value and respect all flora and fauna within our diverse biomes. We understand and value each animal and plants contribution to these environments.

Our Mission

Our mission is to educate the younger generations of Australians, helping preserve the rich biodiversity of Australia’s wildlife. We seek to enrich the lives of our future generations and that of the ‘bush’ through informed exploration.
By giving the community, especially those in their formative years, ownership of Australia’s environmental future we aim to create a bond between human and bushland.
Through the efforts of the community we aim to compile a repository of data that will in turn allow our government to implement effective strategies to safeguard our environment.

Our core values

We have a passion for the conservation and perpetuation of Australia’s wildlife. We value and respect all flora and fauna within our diverse biomes. We understand and value each animal and plants contribution to these environments.

Data Story

We all live incredibly busy lives. Being in the technology industry you would know this well. We are always on the go, then on top of this we wish to help our children live healthier and more active lives. However, while we are doing this all our children see is us using our technology for our business calls, coding and the management of our lives; it is natural that they would do the same.

Bindii utilises the technology our children are so familiar with rather than fights against it. We wanted to find a way to marry the issue of children’s inactivity and a general lack of community awareness of the environment with conservation. We have used data from ACTmapi EPD and ArcGIS Environment displays as the foundation for an interactive polygon heatmap game.

When users of Bindii take photos of wildlife, key relevant metadata is sent to our crowdsourced API repository. Allowing us to gather data on wildlife numbers, health, genome, location and look while keeping private data private. This repository will provide governmental and conservation bodies with the raw data they require to implement key policy reforms.
