Project Description
Exploring what skills, training and qualifications do Australians already have that can support the transition from a fossil fuels-based to a clean energy-based economy?
Exploring the gaps in skills, training and qualifications that may delay this transition, with a particular focus on the Gippsland (Vic), Hunter Valley (NSW), Central Queensland (Qld) and Collie (WA) regions?
Data Story
The energy transition is one of greatest challenges and opportunities in the decades to 2050. This transition is taking place in a complex global context arising from major technological, geopolitical and social trends.
One of the factors that contributes to the gender pay gap is the difference in participation in vocational education and training (VET). Women are less likely to participate in VET than men, especially in high-paying VET courses.
This is a problem because VET can provide people with the skills they need to get good jobs and earn higher wages. By participating in VET, women can close the gender pay gap and achieve financial security.
Skilling the Energy Transition gives six recommendations to fix the skills and labour challenges .
Enhancing the Vocational Education and Training Sector’s capacity to understand and meet the demands of industry
Calibrating higher education to meet the needs of clean energy interests
Raising the profile of the clean energy sector as an opportunity for all Australians
Establishing Australia’s reputation abroad as a global centre for clean energy expertise.
