Project Description


It’s not only about shorter showers.

How do the decisions we make every day influence water supply and distribution?

We have created a native iOS Mobile App to play an interactive story of an everyday encounter, where you have to make simple choices that lead to different outcomes (a lush forest or dried out crops). At the end of the story, we show users how simple choices that you wouldn't associate with water, affect the supply and distribution of water.

Our vision was to create an engaging way to learn about the consequences of our actions in relation to water and creating a more informed population that can take responsibility and create sustainable policy.

Our iOS native mobile app is our final product, but we also created a Web experience (in progress). Our overarching vision for the product is to create a learning experience that can be accessed via school computers, paired with the mobile app for the general public.


Data Story


We used a combination of water and agricultural data to tell a story about water, beyond that which we can see. Whilst there is a clear message during periods of drought that people should have shorter showers and avoid gardening, the story about how water is used throughout the supply chain is untold.

Water – From source to tap.

Ideas to engage upper primary and lower secondary school students (with advantages for community learning) in learning about the water cycle (source to tap). We want them to understand where water comes from (sources), the different types of water (drinking, recycled, classes of water), how and why it is treated (health), how we move it (infrastructure) and how we use it (drinking, cooking, commercially, fires, toilets, sanitation, washing, in the home). The ideas should highlight why water is so important for our survival. Ideas should be fun, interactive and educational. The engagement should be relevant to the Australian School Curriculum, adaptable to water organisations and schools around Australia and sustainable.
